Jul 19, 2021 - Replacing a Well Pressure Tank
After 30 years the bladder in our well pressure tank finally failed. This
caused the pump to cycle often and we frequently tripped the low pressure
cutoff if we used too much water at once. Our old tank was an 80 gallon
tank, but thanks to pandemic related supply issues the largest tank I
could find within 100 miles was a 52 gallon tank. With only three
available locally I rushed to the store to get one before they were gone.
Then I spent the afternoon replacing the tank. A lot of water was trapped
in the bladder, which meant I couldn't drain the tank completely. I
drained what I could in order to move the tank, then drilled holes to
remove the remaining water so I could take the tank to the recycler. The
old tank tee showed signs of leaking, so I decided to install a new tank
tee, pressure gauge, pressure switch, valve, and relief valve. Hopefully
this will last another 30 years.
